Guided Reading

At Einstein Scholars, it's important that children become independent readers. Therefore we are introducing guided reading integrated with reciprocal reading. This gives students the chance to apply the following strategies:
* The 'questioner' who asks questions which will help the group to understand what has been read and thinks of questions to ask as they read the text.
*The 'summariser' tells the group what they have read in their own words.
* The 'predictor' uses what they have read or clues from the illustrations to help figure out what the group will learn or what will happen in the text.
*The 'clarifier' explains to the group and tell them what they think it means.
Good readers employ a wide range of word-solving strategies, including analysis of sound-letter relationships and word parts. They must figure out words that are embedded in different kinds of texts. Reading a variety of books enables them to go beyond reading individual words to interpreting language and its subtle meanings.
